We need wives (I hate this statement)

I hate it when women make this joke - you know, busy professional/career women who work outside the home and work a lot and who joke about how they need wives to do all the things they can't get done like pay bills and pick up dry cleaning. I just hate it. Some one said it to me the other day - we need wives. I thought, no, actually, I don't. And besides, I can think of a number of stay at home moms who could use a wife also I suppose on the same theory, cause it's not like they have time either to get everything done that needs to be done, even though people make the assumption that they do.

And yeah, it's true that I was foiled again by the dry cleaner this morning and yes, it's hard to find time to run certain errands and get certain things done that can only be done in the middle of a week day, and yeah, I don't cook that often these days because I don't have time and it's just easier to eat all frozen food that I can nuke, and sure, it would be nice to have someone else mail the package for me and pick up the prescription and cook me dinner and clean my house and do my shopping and my laundry and make my appointments. But no, I do everything myself. Everything. And I generally don't complain about it. I find a way to get it all done. And no, I don't have a family, so that makes it easier, but I'm sure I could do it if I needed to (not saying it would be easy though). I don't know, it just bugs me when people say this - I need a wife, cause you know, all those things are things that a wife does right? It makes me want to vomit. Especially when I hear it from other people in my career situation who must have, at some point, thought about the breaking down of traditional, stereotypical gender roles.

I don't need a wife folks, a husband would do me just fine thank you very much.
